Chicago Underground Library News
Published July 17th, 2006 in zines, spectacleSo the Chicago Underground Library folks have sent out another update email. Being the sort of person who wants them to succeed, I’m going to tell you all about it.
First and foremost, CUL rocks. They’ve only been around for 6 months, but they are so cool (and so nice) that you should feel very small and uncool if you don’t know about them yet”a1a”. Fortunately, I’m here and I can help you out. Start here.
So the latest news is that they’ve just about gotten completely moved in over at Mojoe’s Hot House which means that very soon, you’ll be able to go browse the collection in person. They also have their online catalog working, so go check it out. I don’t think they have everything in their collection added to the database yet, but you can at least click through most of it.
Still not sure if these people are truly as cool as I claim? You can meet them on Thursday night at the Second Annual Printer’s Ball at the Double Door. Still unsure? The event is being hosted by Poetry, New City, MAKE, and THE2NDHAND. Still not convinced? It’s Free. So be there (at 8 on Thursday the 20th)”a2a”.
Finally, CUL is looking for volunteers to help represent non-english speaking groups in the zinester community. Know a group of urdu language zinesters? Have an army of friends who only write in Spanish? Want to help make CUL the most awesome zine library ever? Donate some time, or services, or zines to the library! You can get in touch with them via email at info(at)underground-library(dot)org.
- Seriously, you should. I’m very uncool and I know about them. aaa
- In case you somehow don’t know where the Double Door is, the address is 1572 N. Milwaukee Ave. So that’s the Blue line to Damen, or the North Ave Bus to Milwaukee and Damen, or the Milwaukee bus to Damen and North, or the Damen bus to North and Milwaukee aaa
