The Tigers suck.

You know, I watched a fair amount of baseball this season. And during the season, Detroit really seemed unstoppable. But apparently I was wrong, as all 5 games of the World Series including a throwing error on the part of a Tigers pitcher. I mean, wow, Detroit sucks, who knew? TSK said to me before the series started that if Saint Louis won a single game, then Detroit were failures, even if they won the series. I was inclined to agree with him”a1a”. I really thought Detroit was going to give them a run for their money. And Detroit did play excellent baseball for a game or two, but Jesus, one win?

All in all, it makes me happy to see the Cardinals win the World Series. I drive through the city frequently, was a bit sad to see the old stadium go, but think the new one looks really nice. The people in Saint Louis are friendly. The beer they make there sucks, but most of the beer made in America sucks. It’s a cute city with a gigantic metal arch completely dwarfing the utterly tiny Mississippi”a2a”. They’re serious baseball fans down there, they’ve won it all more than a few times, and they were technically the team that had waited the longest since their last win (the Cards won their last world series in 82, the Tigers in 84). But after a season where the champions were called cursed followed by a season where the champions were the not-so-lovable-losers of the south side of Chicago, this year just sort of sucks (though it was cool to watch an all midwestern series).

I must admit, I was happy to see the Cubs’ divisional rivals take it all. While I would have preferred back-to-back championships from the White Sox, the Cardinals seem like a good second choice (because my love of the White Sox is based in a serious distaste for the Cubs and their fans). And I believe this particular series is the first time that a team has won the championship at home with a brand new stadium, which adds yet another footnote into the gigantic book of baseball trivia, and pointless facts is what baseball is all about, right?

  1. though I had disagreed with him in regards to the Cardinals even making it to the series. He said they’d never beat the Mets, I thought they could though I doubted they would aaa
  2. When I was 19 and I made the drive to Chicago for the first time, I was really excited about crossing the river. It was amazing at New Orleans, and still pretty mighty in Memphis. But by the time you get to St. Louis, it’s pretty sad looking, not as pathetic as it is at the quad cities, but much more diminutive than I thought possible. More rivulet than river, I wondered how it could become so much more impressive in so few miles. For this, I feel very sorry for the people of Saint Louis. That and the fact that the only place to the west of Saint Louis is Tulsa, apparently. aaa
